Yeah, exactly. I actually don't think I noticed it with Simon R Green's books until like, the last book of his Deathstalker series where 3 out of 4 of the major female characters were at the most obnoxious extreme of this trope. These are kind of major spoilers, so I'm whiting them out just in case: [One of them because a galaxy-killing menace because her morality boyfriend died and she completely snapped, one of them was a complete psycho killer who had no apparent reason for giving a crap about her morality boyfriend except author appeal, and the third did a suicide run because her boyfriend died.] I DOTTED A LOT and then looked at his other stuff and went :/ a lot.
But yeah, I think it's pretty much the same thing as your trope. It's just a different form of taming the wild woman warrior, which is obnoxious in any form. I just find it harder to notice because it's not as obviously screwed up and so I never notice it until it becomes a pattern for an overwhelming number of the female characters.
