Dear world:

Please abandon phones already and use email like any modern person. I hate talking on phones so much it's ridiculous. Between the way my ears overheat, the way I inevitably have to ask people to repeat themselves a ridiculous number of times because I have a hard enough time what people are saying in person, and the way I absolutely have to pace or at least be standing up on the phone, even when I'm stuck with a corded phone, I inevitably feel like an idiot most the time. An opinion probably shared by most the people I talk to on them. Bah.

No love,
me

Sorry can't agree completely. =/

Phones are so nice for the immediate feedback - I can start off with the initial concept and counteract any misunderstanding straight away - instead of going into great detail - and them completely misunderstanding the main point, admittedly usually because I've made an assumption, like the IT desk knows that you can search on more than field in their database, even with the very, very basic user query system.

I don't think phone is the be all and end all, but it's such a useful tool to use in conjunction with email for organising and explaining things.

But emails also a lot better for documentation and tracking and things that don't need to be done right away.

I have always loathed phones, and greatly prefer email.
