I am not going to dig out Renunciates of Darkover to see if "Shut in" was any good.

(from what I remember at the time, late HS, early Uni for me, they had intended to use an idea from story as sort of a jumping off point, rather than an intrinsic part of the novel, but it is an old memory that I can't remember the origin of and may be wrong)
